Which businesses don't have a website?

In a check of 560 businesses in Mumbai and Pune on 16 October 2026, 40% had no website on Google Maps. The most often missing were pet shops and vets, clinics and doctors, and caterers; the least often were dentists, chartered accountants, and interior designers. Among businesses with good reviews, about a third still had none.

How did we check?

On 16 October 2026 we searched Google Maps for 17 types of business in two areas: Ghatkopar, Mumbai and Kothrud, Pune. Each search returned up to 20 businesses, and we kept the ones that were open. That gave 560 businesses: 340 in Ghatkopar and 220 in Kothrud.

For each business we looked at one thing: whether its Google Maps listing has a website link, and whether the link goes to a real website or to a page on Facebook, Instagram, Justdial or a similar site. We didn’t open the businesses’ pages, so “no website” here means Google has no website for them.

Keep these limits in mind:

What did we find?

Of the 560 businesses:

Website on Google MapsBusinessesShare
No website22640%
A social or directory page only275%
A real website30755%

So 253 of 560, or 45%, had no real website. In Ghatkopar 44% had no website at all. In Kothrud it was 35%.

Which businesses with good reviews have no website?

Reviews show that a business has customers, so a well-reviewed business with no website is a stronger lead than a quiet one.

We counted a business as well reviewed if it had a rating of 4.0 or more from at least 50 reviews. 366 of the 560 qualified. Of those:

With a stricter bar of 4.2 or more from at least 100 reviews, 264 businesses qualified. 87 of them (33%) had no website and 9 more had only a social or directory page (96 in all).

So a good rating doesn’t mean a business has a site. The types with the largest share of well-reviewed businesses and no website:

TypeWell reviewed, no website
Event planners6 of 8
Pet shops and vets7 of 10
Photographers5 of 9
Real estate agents3 of 7
Yoga studios10 of 24
Gyms and fitness studios14 of 34

Groups of 10 businesses or fewer are easy to over-read. Gyms and fitness studios and yoga studios have the larger groups here, so their numbers are the steadier ones.

What does this mean if you build websites?

Two things stand out.

First, you don’t have to search far. In 13 of the 17 types, at least 35% of the businesses had no website on Google Maps, including businesses with plenty of reviews.

Second, the types differ a lot. If you pick interior designers, most of the first 40 results already have a site. Clinics, caterers and yoga studios are better places to start looking.

A business with no website still needs checking before you message it. Look it up by name and city, and check its Instagram bio for a link. The guide to finding businesses without a website shows the search step by step and what counts as a real website.

How does Signboard use this?

Signboard gives each business a score out of 100 for how likely it is to pay for a website. No website on Google adds the most points, 45. A social or directory link instead of a website adds 38. Reviews add up to 30 points, so a well-reviewed business with no site ranks above a quiet one with the same gap. You get a list sorted that way for a type and an area, and a WhatsApp message to send.

Once you have a list, what to say and when to follow up covers the rest. The pricing page lists the limits on the free and Pro plans.

Common questions

Which businesses don't have a website?

In a sample of 560 businesses in Mumbai and Pune taken on 16 October 2026, pet shops and vets, clinics and doctors, caterers, and yoga studios most often had no website on Google Maps, and dentists, chartered accountants, and interior designers least often. Other areas can differ, so search yours.

What businesses really need websites?

This page doesn't measure which businesses need one, only which don't have one. A website gives people something to open beyond a map listing, such as services, prices, hours and a way to book, so a business that customers search for is a reasonable candidate. In the sample, 24 of 40 clinics and 21 of 40 yoga studios had none.

Is it worth having a website for a small business?

It depends on how its customers find it. If people already find the business on the map and call, a website adds a place to show services and prices. The sample counts how many businesses lack one. It doesn't measure what a website earns.

Does a Facebook or Justdial page count as a website?

No. On Google Maps the link can look like a website when it only goes to a social or directory page. In the sample, 27 of 560 businesses (5%) had only a page like this, and they are counted separately from businesses with no link at all.

How do I find local businesses without a website?

Search a business type and an area on Google Maps, open each listing and look for a Website button, then search for the business by name to check it has none elsewhere. Signboard runs the search for you and ranks the results.
